Updating from a previous version?
Install the new instance as you usually would.
When updating from a previous version of the modpack, any configuration changes will not be saved.
To retrive them copy options.txt from the .minecraft folder of the old instance to the new instance.
Map views and waypoints will also be reset/removed
To retrive these copy the journeymap folder from the .minecraft folder of the old instance to the new instance
